How Is Facial Symmetry Calculated?

Facial symmetry is measured by establishing a true vertical midline passing through the glabella (between the eyebrows) down through the subnasale (base of the nose) and the menton (tip of the chin).

Our algorithm then measures the perpendicular distance from this central axis to multiple paired anatomical landmarks on the left and right sides:

  • Outer & Inner Canthi: Left vs. right eye corners.
  • Zygomatic Arches: Left vs. right cheekbone apex points.
  • Nasal Alar Bases: Left vs. right nostrils.
  • Cheilion Points: Left vs. right oral commissures (mouth corners).
  • Gonial Angles: Left vs. right mandibular jaw angles.
